Despite the weakness of password protection implemented in Microsoft Office 97-2003 document formats, they are still popular and widely used. A 40-bit key is used to encrypt data in password-protected Microsoft Word and Excel documents, that’s why it is possible to restore access to them in minutes.

Having researched the weaknesses of the encryption algorithm, Passcovery experts created a new version of Passcovery Suite. It significantly reduces the time of getting access to password-protected data.

Using the document encryption key, Passcovery Suite decrypts the password-protected Microsoft Word or Excel document and creates its exact copy, only unprotected.

Keeping in mind the needs of our users, we’ve implemented two approaches in Passcovery Suite: search for a ready-made key in our original rainbow tables and search for the key in the encrypted document.

The rainbow table method is good for quickly processing multiple documents. On average, key-search and document decryption takes a few minutes per document. This approach is used in the high-end version of Passcovery Suite. It is recommended for users who need to get access to many password-protected documents (for example, in a law enforcement agency). The rainbow tables are only available under the Ultimate License.

Casual users will probably like Passcovery Suite’s new option: unassisted search for the encryption key. This approach is slower than the one based on the ready-made rainbow tables for Word/Excel but still faster than conventional password recovery.

In case of decryption of a Microsoft Word or Excel document, success is always guaranteed, doesn’t depend on the complexity of the password, and is always attainable in reasonable time.

Dr. Larry Sanger has designed a new website called ReadingBear.org.  It is a free website from Sanger and the team from the education website, WatchKnowLearn.org.  The project is funded by an anonymous Memphis-area philanthropist through the non-profit Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi.

  ReadingBear.org takes a phonics approach to teaching children to read.  The site features more than 100 phonics principles. More than 1,200 words are pronounced at four speeds, each illustrated with a picture.  Each word is also used in a sentence illustrated by a video. The words are displayed “karaoke” style—individual letters flash at the moment that the corresponding sounds are spoken.

Readingbear.org’s word lists were drawn from exercises from Rudolph Flesch’s classic Why Johnny Can’t Read. Veteran phonics teacher Don Potter declared these exercises “have proven highly effective with all kinds of students, even those who had failed with high-dollar dyslexia methods.”

  Distinguished reading researcher, Dr. Timothy Shanahan praised Readingbear.org’s reading approach and its colorful features. “It sounds words out for the children, showing them graphically how the sounds match the letters (try to do that with a workbook),” said Shanahan.

The latest PNC biannual survey on the economic outlook, shows that small business owners are even less confident about 2013 then they were prior to entering 2012 (which was a very uncertain period due to the Presidential election).

Researchers show that sleep is good for your memory.  According to a news report published in the science news publication, SciGuru.com, researchers find that sleep can consolidate your memory.  The study shows the extraordinary effect of sleep in repackaging the past experiences in context.

According to the news report published by SciGuru.com Science News (http://www.sciguru.com), an important aspect of the study was the manipulation of the emotion of the words.  Emotional memories are thought to be strong, reflecting their salience and future relevance.  However, this study found that false memories (recall of never-presented critical words, i.e., the gist) was just as prominent when word lists were emotionally negative (slaughter, execute, shoot, etc) as when they were neutral.  These results support the adaptive function of sleep in both remembering and in extracting memory details.

The research suggests an additional benefit of sleep in extracting the ‘gist’ of recent memories.  In the study, Dr. Rebecca Spencer and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, had participants learn lists of related words (bowl, spoon, morning, breakfast, milk).  Importantly, each list lacked a critical word which reflected the gist of the list (cereal).  When recall of the lists was probed after sleep, participants were more likely to recall those critical words reflecting the gist of the list than they were if recall took place after wake.

A Russian Film being produced in Sri Lanka

Russia has found Sri Lanka as an ideal location for shooting of one of its films.  This is the first time a Russian film shooting will be carried out in Sri Lanka.  The Unique Film Company of Moscow has decided to make this film in Sri Lanka considering the peaceful environment and cinematic locations existing in the country.

The Unique Film Company will invest around one million us dollars for the film “Veronica” to be directed by the well known Russian Film Director Andre Selevhov.  It will be filmed in the suburban areas of Colombo, Beruwala and Anuradhapura.

A Film team of Sri Lanka headed by Ravinda Randeniya is coordinating the shooting of the film “Veronica”.  Over 20 local actors and actresses including Ravindra Randeniya, Yashodha Wimaladharma, Bimal Jayakody, in addition to Russian artistes and 80 technicians are engaged in the production of this film.(niz)

The Whitepaper Report reviews the increasingly important role of online video for employee benefits education and benefits enrollment communications. According to recent studies discussed in the Report, “more than half the employees working in US companies today feel that their available benefits are poorly communicated to them”. Video content is now commonly used by employers and benefits brokers to educate employees about the use of new benefits tax savings plans such as HSA’s, HRA’s and FSA’s, as well as an array of voluntary benefits products and plans being offered. Video postcard email campaigns are being offered more frequently to employers by companies like Willis and Mercer to announce benefits open enrollment and detail annual changes in benefits plan offerings.  For these purposes, the Report states that spokesperson and executive message videos with graphic treatments are effective and affordable forms of video content.

Interactive Video Postcards: A New Benefits Communication Solution
